The wholesale price of R-22 has about quadrupled in the last year or so. Has the government put a punishment tax on it? If so, how much is the tax, and where can I find documentation of it?

Climatize mars?

abehagenston asked:

I wonder if we used an atom smasher on the moon of mars to slam into it if we could crack the surface and force the massive release of sulfer and co2 because of geothermal activity. Perhaps it would warm the atmosphere and force the atmosphere to gain density and force the water vapor back down to the ground. Because of the lack of pressure the water is boiling without heat. Does anybody have a commend about this?

Guide for Buying Refrigerator

Monty Alexander asked:

The known refrigerator brands include BPL, Electrolux, Godrej, LG, Samsung, Sanyo, Videocon, Whirlpool, etc

Types of refrigerators

Side-by-side refrigerators

Side-by-side refrigerators are the ones that put fresh food at eye-level in the refrigerator. When considering a side-by-side, you need to take care of the capacity and interior flexibility. In some models, the compartments are narrower than those you will find in top- or bottom-mount models. As a result you may not accommodate larger items or packages you frequently store. It is better to select a refrigerator with adjustable bins and shelves so you can confirm the available space to suit your storage needs. Models that offer space-saving freezer features such as in-door ice makers that move ice to the freezer door are better options as they free up a lot of valuable shelf space.

Generally this type of refrigerator will require more kitchen space than other types due to the overall size and the area needed to open both doors. Size of standard side-by-side refrigerators range from approximately 31 inches to 36 inches. Depths range from about 28 inches to 34 inches and the heights of most models range between 66 inches and 69 inches, making them taller than top-mounts.

Freezer on top

This type is the most common type of Refrigerators available. It also offers the most extensive style choices.

Standard widths for this type of refrigerators range from 23 inches to approximately 36 inches. Depth, 27 inches to 33 inches, including the door handle. Most top-mount refrigerators are 60 inches to 69 inches in height. Because of their configuration, top-mounts offer more capacity than other model types. Eye-level freezers also offer easier access to food stored in the freezer.

Freezer on bottom

Bottom-mount freezers are not as widely available as other refrigerator types so far. But most major manufacturers today offer at least one model. The bottom-mount design is a good option for those households that prefer fresh food selections at eye level.

The dimensions of bottom-mount refrigerators are generally the same as those of the larger top-mounts.

How do you feel about Al Gore’s improvements to his home?

Dana1981, Master of Science asked:

Global warming ’skeptics’ often criticize Al Gore for having a high energy consumption home.

“Gore has gotten LEED gold certification from the Green Building Council - the 10,000-square-foot home is one of only 14 in the U.S. to achieve this rating, and the only home in Tennessee that’s gotten any certification at all, according to the Associated Press. (There is also a platinum standard) Solar panels, solar roof fans, a rainwater collection system, and geothermal heating were all installed at the house. All incandescent lights - including those on the Christmas tree! - were replaced with either compact fluorescents or light-emitting diodes. And according to AP, energy use at the home decreased 11 percent during Tennessee’s sultriest months, when the area was also hit by a heat wave.”

Should those who gave Gore so much flak for his house now give him some credit for these many environmentally friendly improvements?

Different Types of Commercial Refrigeration

Cas Paton asked:

Whenever most of us think about refrigeration or having to chill food in any way, we typically think about the type of refrigerators that we have in our home. The fact of the matter is, there is a large demand for commercial refrigeration as well that ranges from blast chillers to display freezers and fish refrigerators. Here is a little bit about the different types of commercial refrigeration that is available, and some specifics on each type of refrigeration.

The first type of commercial refrigeration that we are going to talk about are blast chillers. There are a number of different types of these chillers that are available but the main purpose behind them is to get the food down to a low temperature in the shortest amount of time possible. Most of the blast chillers that are available claim to be able to drop food from a temperature of about 70°F down to below 3°F within 90 minutes. This is especially important in order to remain compliant with some of the regulations that are in place as far as the proper handling of food is concerned. There are plenty of choices available with these blast chillers so make sure that you get one that has all the options that you need.

A couple other types of commercial refrigeration that you may need include display freezers and display fridges. These are typically the ones that you would find in a grocery store or perhaps some kind of a convenience store and allow the customer to be able to see what is on the inside without opening the doors. You may also be able to get a variety of different display fridges that do not include doors. These also can be found in a lot of different food stores and offer the convenience of being able to reach directly down into the compartment in order to pick the food that you want. These display freezers and display fridges also come in smaller sizes as well and many grocery stores keep these upfront with bottled water or other drinks on the inside.

If you’re running a grocery store or a fish market, you’re going to need a supply of Fish refrigerators as well. These are really just commercial refrigeration that is specifically made in order to handle fish, typically on sliding trays. All that is really necessary for you to do is to decide how much of the demand you have for fish in your market and then to get the appropriate size. Of course, there are a lot of different options that are available for these type of refrigerators as well and you should make sure that you are well prepared as it is important to keep fish at the proper temperature. You can also get fish display cases that are refrigerated in order to have the fish out where your customers can see it but still keep it at a cool temperature.

If so, do geothermal heat pumps harvest and store this heat for last use, thus preventing any of it from going outside?

ritman2000 asked:

My boiler is super old and always needs servicing so I need to replace it, but I’m seriously considering spending the money for Geothermal instead. Though this would just be a forced hot air scenario, I would love to get off of oil completely – but is there any way to hook up a closed loop Geothermal system to heat my hot water as well?
