Underfloor heating is considered a modernised heating concept and is used throughout the world. However underfloor heating is not a new phenomenon as the heating system has been around since the days of the Romans. It is believed that in those days Romans constructed their buildings with voids, which enabled circulation of warm air to flow under the floor and through the walls. The air was heated by an outside open fire and required several people to look after the system. Since then times have changed, however one aspect has remained constant and that is the desire to be comfortable in all circumstances.

The Case of Underfloor Heating

Today’s underfloor heating is a sophisticated version of the Roman principle, and the system is not restricted to just domestic dwellings, as many businesses have implemented the heating system into their commercial properties. One of the main reasons home and business owners have opted for underfloor heating is because of the environmental benefits – underfloor heating is an efficient way to heat a building. The heating system operates at lower temperatures and consumes less energy, which means less CO2 emissions. The lower operating temperatures maximises the efficiency of the heating pump, and therefore the pump will last longer. Research has shown that energy saving is from 15% to 40% with underfloor heating.

Underfloor heating can either be warm water based or electricity driven, depending upon the precise requirements.

Warm Water Based

Warm water underfloor heating, also referred to as a wet system, uses a series of continuous pipes or tubes that are laid into the floor through which warm water circulates at about 50°C. The entire setup can incur high installation charges, however due to the energy saving features, cost reductions on heating are made in the long run. Warm water underfloor heating offers complete flexibility in terms of pipe types, installation specifics and control options.

Electrical Systems

Electric underfloor heating, also referred to as a dry system, uses electric cables or heating mats to generate the same results as a warm water system. The system is cheaper in terms of installation charges, and it also takes less time to install than the wet system. Electric underfloor heating is ideal for installing into buildings that are already constructed.

Advantages of Underfloor Heating

The foremost benefit is the comfort level extended. Unlike traditional heating system which works on heating a room from the top down, underfloor heating emits heat from the floor upwards, nor are there any cold spots in the room.

Another key advantage of the system is the setup aesthetics. The heating structure is in the floor and therefore maximises space in the room as furniture does not need to take into account the location of any radiators.

The heat control of the system is straight forward. Some underfloor heating systems are sensitive to the room and floor temperature and adjust automatically to any external changes. Or manual control is an option and individual rooms can be set at a temperature which is agreeable to all occupants.

Underfloor heating does not create any extra dust and helps to reduce dust mites, which is a benefit to people with lung problems, such as asthma.

Another joy of underfloor heating is the silence. Unlike conventional heating systems there isn’t any annoying noises coming from the motor, or the radiators as they heat up.

Conclusion

Underfloor heating has been around since the Roman’s time. The heating system fell out of vogue over the ages, but since the 1960’s in the UK underfloor heating has seen a revival as people began to understand the system and realised the benefits the system would offer them.

2. Use screw driver to test whether the electricity leaks out (use type of screw driver that can test the electricity leaks)

3. If possible, choose the fridge that has automatic power cut and resume operation. This will help when your house has power short or uncertain power shortage.

4. If the lamp in the fridge is broken, do not remove it until you have a new one to replace

5. Do not let the area around the fridge wet, it could be danger if your fridge has power leaks.

6. Always remember or take note on emergency numbers.

Question: What size can I go down to where I can cool the room size comfortably and knock out a few amps. 14 amps has got to be costing me a lot in electricity right?

What are some unique ways to conserve energy?

I already only travel when necessary, turn lights off when leaving the room, have the new lights that use less energy, push mow my 3 city lots, have mostly energy star appliances, etc… the common ways (that I can afford).
Just turning lights off when leaving a room, switching to the new lights (curly q’s - I don’t know their proper name), and taking shorter/cooler showers — I have seen a steady decline in my usage of electricity.

I want to know if there is anything else that I could do to save energy and money that people would not normally think of.

I would like to have geothermal heat/cooling system but cannot spend that much and cannot get a loan to do so. So I have an efficient heating/cooling system and try to get fresh air on nicer days (below 90 degrees).

Please help me come up with some more ideas/solutions to save energy and dollars!

Furnace filters should be checked at least once a month they may not need to be changed every month but you should at least check them once a month by obviously during high cooling for heating times of the year If the filters will need to be changed more often. This brings us to the question of what type of filter do I need. There are basically three different types of filters are commonly used the first and least expensive But is they typical fiberglass filter these usually cost less than a dollar and do a fair job of cleaning the air. The next filter is a pleated filter these filters We’ll remove smaller particles of dust from your home than the standard fiberglass filter these filters do cost a little bit more And may need to be changed more often.

The next step in from its filter technology is a 4in. thick mechanical type air filter installing this filter will require changing your duct work and adding electricity. The main advantage of a mechanical type air filter is that it never needs changing but does require cleaning. It does cost more but does a much better job of removing small particles from your home.

No matter what type of filter you choose it will only be effective if it is maintained properly. Changing for cleaning your filters tie regular basis will increase the life of your furnace reduce maintenance costs and reduce energy costs in heating and cooling your house and will make your house cleaner by removing those particles.

Simple Air Conditioning Repairs You Can Do Yourself

If you own an air conditioner, then it is safe to say that at some time in the future you will need air-conditioning repairs. There are a few different things that can go wrong and some are very easily repaired. For example, if your air conditioner is not cooling, but is still running it may just need cleaning. Before you start, find your owner’s manual. If you can’t find it, then you can request one from the manufacturer. Try to pick a fairly warm day for the repair because this will give you a better idea of why it is not working.

Before you start your air-conditioning repairs, make sure the power to the unit is turned off. You should be able to find a shut off panels for this. If you can’t find this panel then shut off the electricity to the house itself. Make sure you rake any debris away from the outside condenser.

Now you can start to find out what the problem is by removing the grill cover off the condenser and clean the fins by using a soft cloth and brush. You have to be careful not to damage the fins as this can be done very easily. Vacuum them out after cleaning. Now unscrew and lift up the cover of the grill, but be careful. The fan is attached to some of them and you don’t want to pull any wires loose. After cleaning, you can hose out the fins, but protect the motor with some kind of waterproof covering. If you think the motor needs lubricating, now is the time to do it. Now put the unit back together. This is the easy part of air-conditioning repairs.

To test your air conditioning repairs, turn the power back on and let your unit run for a few minutes. Place your hand on the pipes that connect to the condenser unit. One of the pipes should feel warm and the other should feel cool. If it’s still not working, then you probably need the refrigerant recharged and this will require a professional.

If your air conditioner doesn’t go on automatically, there are a few steps you can take to check this out. First, make sure that your thermostat is set to cool and below room temperature. You should also check to see if a fuse is blown or the problem may be a tripped breaker on your main panel box. Make sure that the power switch on the furnace is turned on and also the condenser switch on the outside unit. You can also check to make sure the 240-volt disconnect, which is next to the compressor outside, hasn’t been turned off. These are some steps that will help you with air-conditioning repairs.

Any air conditioning repairs you can do on your own will certainly help your budget and can be spent on other problems that may arise where you can’t repair your air conditioning yourself. The repairs above are straightforward and you should have no problem in completing them. If you run into difficulty, contact the manufacturer. They hold a world of knowledge about the products they make and may be able to contribute some useful information for the problems you face while doing the repairs.

* Geothermal Energy/power- Geothermal power is the use of geothermal heat to generate electricity. It is often referred to as a form of renewable energy, but because the heat at any location can eventually be depleted it is by definition not strictly renewable.
